As a certified citrus lover, I'm excited to see lemon print practically everywhere lately. Have you noticed? It's all about lemons right now. You know what they say...when life (clothing retailers) gives you lemons, make lemonade (a killer outfit)! Close enough.

Being a child of the 1980s and 90s, I can't believe I'm saying this, but I really love the current wallpaper trend sweeping the home decor scene. (Whatever, I'm calling it a scene.) I never understood the appeal of wallpaper in the past, due to its installation difficulty, the types of boring and/or dated designs that tended to be available and, of course, the torture of eventually removing it. Why would anyone go through all that?!

This, though, is not your grandma's wallpaper, and I actually mean that literally. The tiny florals and muted shades of yesteryear - funeral home chic, really - are now replaced by bright, oversized prints and contemporary designs. I seriously doubt your grandma would've plastered her walls in an ice cream cone print. I remember mine having a more serious fruit print in the dining room that I desperately wanted to lick, like in Willy Wonka, but feared the vintage glue and, you know, shame of it all.

I love the look of a printed statement wall, especially if you're not quite ready to dive in to a fully wallpapered look. This also seems great for renters, as it is removable and allows you to give some custom personality to your space without painting or making permanent changes. Or, if you just like to switch up your space frequently, you can more easily go from carrots to triangles to a mountain view. Options, baby.

DIY Lemon Juice Hair Lightener

I was born and raised with a head of beautiful light blond hair that fell gracefully down my back and wouldn’t know how to get frizzy if it tried. After a gift such as this, how did I repay the hair gods? By obsessively dyeing and cutting my mane myself for the better part of a decade, of course! While I still do the cutting myself and I maintain the bleaching of my bangs, I have opted to avoid hair dye on the rest of my head for almost 2 years. For fellow hair dye addicts out there, you know how difficult that can be.

I’ve become accustomed to the much darker shade of blond my hair has become over the years (probably more light brown at this point but I can’t let go, okay?) but I can’t help but yearn for the sunny highlights of yesteryear every now and then, which is why I wanted to try lightening my hair with lemon juice.

One problem: the mood struck at 8:00PM and there was no sunlight to be found. Plus, I have no dedicated outdoor space at my building and it’s not really beach season anymore. I read about substituting sunlight with a hair dryer so I gave it a whirl. The premise seemed okay; the heat of the dryer would spur the acidity of the lemon…blah, blah, blah, other scientific reasons that I was willing to believe.

Here is my virgin, pre-lemon juice hair:

Ta-da! Or more like ta-don’t, as in don’t bother trying this because it sucks. My hair actually looks darker, if that is at all possible. I know it still looks wet in the ‘after’ photo but it felt dry; the crunchy look is due to pure stickiness. Ewww. Also, this may burn your scalp like a mutha’ if you have any cuts on it. BONUS: this is a great scalp cut detector!
