BEAUTY: Ulta Birthday Gift 2015

In case you missed it, I recently shared my joy over the 2015 Sephora birthday gift (NARS lip pencils!) and I thought you might also like to see my free birthday gift from Ulta. Much like Sephora, once you're signed up with Ulta Rewards (a free service which gets you points for dollars spent and fun coupons) you will receive a coupon for a free birthday gift during your birthday month. The gift for those with birthdays in January, February and March 2015 is the Ulta Complete Eye Palette in Indie:
Oh, why thank you, Ulta!
Last year, Ulta gave out a free full size CK One mascara for every birthday, so this year is a bit of a departure in that they seem to be changing the gift up quarterly. Not sure what the idea behind this thinking is, or if they'll actually follow through with it, but every source I've seen has specifically listed this gift as intended for those with birthdays in January-March.
The good news is that if you like this eye palette and happen to have a birthday outside of those months, you can purchase it outright for $12.00 here. {Side note: last year's mascara gift was valued at $18.00 for those counting at home.}
This palette has a mix of 4 shimmer and 1 matte shades (only the medium brown is matte). The texture is smooth and blend-able, and pigmentation is very nice. None of these shades is patchy or sheer, and there are enough colors to create a nice brown smoky eye situation. Overall, this was a nice, albeit kinda boring, gift. But, hey - free eyeshadow is free eyeshadow, right?
This palette reminds me of one of my drugstore favorites, Wet n Wild's Silent Treatment, which I swatched here a million years ago.

To get this gift from Ulta you WILL need a coupon they send via email (unlike Sephora, where you can just walk in and ask). I got mine on my birthday, so expect it on or around the big day. For those of you with birthdays later in the year, make sure to sign up for Ulta Rewards now and wait to see what your gift will be...I hope I'm not jealous of it!

Do you get free birthday gifts from Ulta? What other awesome free birthday finds have you scored?

  1. Ha! Thank you again for a reminder!!! I haven't received the coupon but I'll be actively looking now with your post-reminder. I'm wondering if I'll get the same gift? Is it month by month that they change or is it yearly? Love the look you did with the eyeshadow palette!!

    Much Love,

  2. Free birthday gifts are fun. I probably won't be getting this because the closest Ulta is kind of far away from me, but still, fun. Changing up the gifts quarterly seems like a bad idea though... there are going to be some folks who get jealous of what the other quarterly gifts were, I suspect!

    1. Totally agree about the quarterly gifts - not sure what the point of that even is? If you offer one gift per year, everyone always gets the same thing - that's what they did last year. There's no need to change it. I'm curious what the other gifts will be though! Bummer that you can't get to an Ulta easily, but I wouldn't say you're missing much on this (nice, but simple) gift! xo

  5. These shadows are beautiful! I never think to try Ulta's eye palettes, but this has definitely made me want to pick up a few! For my birthday gift, Ulta gave me a free CK One mascara (it's one of my favorite mascaras now!).

    1. You definitely need to! I'm getting more and more obsessed with it. It's great because they have drugstore brands (including TONS of NYX) but also have high end stuff and crazy amounts of hair products and nail polishes. It's fun to just browse forever! xo

    1. I don't know how long they've been doing birthday gifts, but I got my first one last year. I had no idea it was an option before that, but now I'm on top of it! xo

  9. It is a nice gift. MY birthday is in December and I got a coupon for this palette but none of the stores carried it yet before the coupon expired. So I was never able to redeem my birthday gift. How long did the eyeshadows last on you?

    1. Awww, that's too bad! They should have done something for you, considering it was their error. I found these shadows to be fairly long lasting, and the look was still nice when I washed my face at night. Primer helps too! xo

  21. That shadow looks so lovely on you! I've never used their products aside from the sculpting palette for the highlight. I'm kind of glad they're switching it up though. My birthday is in June and honestly, this eye palette really isn't my thing. Thanks for sharing!
