2018 Sephora Birthday Gift (psst...it's free!)

A major perk of having my birthday in January is being among the first to receive the free annual Sephora Birthday Gift. It almost makes up for the fact that I can count the number of birthday parties I've cancelled due to snow on more than one hand. Almost. Inclement weather aside, my January was certainly brightened by this gorgeous gift. As usual, Sephora is offering two options for your birthday gift selection:

The best birthday email in your inbox

You can choose from either a Glamglow clearing treatment and illuminating moisturizer or a Bite Beauty lip set. I went with the latter because I don't take matters of free lipstick lightly. The set includes:

• Mini Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Chai {.05 oz}
• Mini Matte Creme Lip Crayon in Glace {.031 oz}
• Agave Lip Treatment Sample Duo {.036 oz}

Bite Beauty's whole angle is "natural, high-performance beauty," meaning no sulfates, parabens, gluten, silicone or other things we've been trained to fear. They make their products in small batches in Canada (which does sounds nice, actually) with natural, organic, "good for you" ingredients.

As is typical, these birthday gift products come in neutral shades that have fairly universal appeal, and though that's less fun than, say, a cool purple lipstick or a deep vampy crayon, it's a practical move on their part. Besides, you can blow your own birthday cash on something more exciting when you pick this gift up at Sephora - I went with the Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette, in case you're curious.

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Chai

This formula is quite comfortable to wear and smooth to apply. There's a light, fruity scent and the matte packaging is sleek and unique. (Oh fun, a rhyme that doesn't look like a rhyme!) This nude tone isn't going to change your life, but it'll be a useful workhorse in your lip rotation, plus it's great to carry on the go due to its size.

This lipstick's formula includes nutrients, vitamins and omega oils to achieve moisturized lips with a healthy look.

Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon in Glace

Here we have a very similar shade in the form of a lip crayon. You'll find the same scent and packaging, but with the ease of a fine tip, twist up crayon. Personally, I love a crayon because it gives you the control of a pencil with the ability to quickly fill in.

According to Bite Beauty, this is made with orange peel wax, which seals in hydration for a water-resistant matte finish. I wouldn't call this a true matte finish - there's definitely a slight sheen - but I have to give it to them on the moisture angle.

Bite Beauty Agave Lip Balm & Agave Sugar Lip Scrub

I'm saving this guy for a special occasion. Well, "special" meaning when I'm deep in the winter dryness game with a peeling lip or two. Not "special" like fun or festive, just to clarify. When I do try it, I'm looking forward to the brown sugar, exotic oils and pineapple enzymes in the scrub and whatever the hell is in this balm that makes it cost $18 per tube. Maybe it'll be great? $18 great though...we'll see.

Do you plan to pick up this free birthday gift? What products have you tried from Bite Beauty? What would be your dream Sephora birthday gift?
